Plant & Machinery Installation City of London

From our base in Croydon on the London/Surrey border, Simmons' own team handles plant movement, machinery installation and removal across the UK and mainland Europe. Where a standard handling solution is not suitable, we plan a bespoke approach with project management to match the work.

Equipment we move, offload and position includes generators, CHP units, gas turbines, MRI scanners, UPS equipment, chillers, air handling units, switchboards, transformers, boilers and engineering machinery. We also handle heavy or fragile items and undertake plant dismantling and disposal.

Data-centre refurbishment and plant replacement require coordination of safety, productivity and access. We liaise with the client on safe systems of work, arrange appropriate handling equipment and consider reuse or recycling through approved waste streams where possible.

London project experience

At Vital in Kidbrooke, South London, we offloaded and positioned thermal stores, CHP units and boilers through a restricted opening into a plant room three metres below ground. Electrical equipment included transformers and switchgear.

At Grosvenor Crescent, a 500-tonne crane was selected to dismantle and lift down two cooling towers over consecutive weekends. At Kings Cross, our team lifted and fixed 54 modular riser sections, with onsite modifications agreed with the manufacturer and client.

For a steelwork lift in Borough High Street, Southwark, the work required temporary traffic lights and coordination with other road closures. Planning with Transport for London helped manage the impact and the programme.
